Character interview with Katherine Sims from “Flagitious” published by Melange Books.

JoAnne Myers: Hello Bobbi, I am happy to be here today with my heroine Katherine Sims, from “3381 Market Street” one crime/mystery tale from my anthology “Flagitious”. Also, I will be awarding two people who comment, each a print book of their choice. The choices are: Murder Most Foul, Loves, Myths, and Monsters, Wicked Intentions, The Crime of the Century, Twisted Love, Flagitious, and Poems About Life, Love, and Everything in Between.

1. Please tell us a little bit about what is currently going on in your life? Well I thought being a young widow was horrible enough, but that soon changed when my brother Jessie Ellis, confided in me during a drunken stupor that he had murdered his 4-year-old son, Charlie. That turned my cozy and safe world upside down.

2. What made you decide to take on such a risky endeavor of revealing your brother’s murderous secret? Reporting Jessie to the sheriff was the most terrifying and brave decision I ever made. I knew how dangerous Jessie was, and that if he discovered I turned him in, I might be dead next. However, I was brought up believing crime of any kind, but especially murder, was wrong, and the guilty must be brought to justice. I did what I had to do, to save the remaining Ellis children.

3. How did your decision affect your life from then on? My sister turned against me, to the point of it turning to blows one day. She said if Jessie was executed for murder, his death was on my hands. Also, when reporters learned of the crime, they hounded me and the other children making the name Katherine Sims a household name.

4. Who would you say is the least pleased about you being the States key witness? My brother Jessie for sure. His cult members were everywhere, watching me, intimidating not only me, but, Prosecutor Greg Langdon, and State Investigator Donovan Slade, with acts of violence. Even from behind bars, Jessie was ruthless and calculating.

5. What are your strengths and weaknesses? My strengths are courage, which I did not know I possessed until I had to be brave and stand up to evil. Determination, to follow through with my decision to report Jessie, even at the cost of my own safety. My weakness was being blindsided by my love for my brother. If I had seen through Jessie’s controlling and abusive behavior toward his wife and family early on, perhaps Charlie would be alive, and the other children may have been spared the physical and psychological torture they had endured for so many years.

6. Describe what being a strong, confident female means to you. Being able to handle any situation that is thrown at me. Taking action toward anyone or any situation that I feel is wrong and getting the job done.

7. What one advice/wisdom would you like to pass onto other young women who may find themselves in a similar situation? Listen with both your heart and mind. The two need one another to make the right choice, and each day is about making choices. Your life and someone else’s life might depend on it. Justice must prevail.

8. What was one lesson you learned during this challenging time in your life? To look outside my comfort zone. To realize that anyone can be the bad guy. To never let my guard down, which is what led to my being kidnapped.

9. If your story or life had a theme song, what would it be? The Eye of the Tiger. That song to me, represents will power, self-motivation, courage, and determination.

“Too Solve His Mother’s Murder”

After his Air Force career was interrupted by his mother’s untimely murder, Steven Moore, returned home. Met with a cold reception of lies, secrets, and threats, he is determined too find Wanda’s killer, even at the cost of his own life. Was Wanda a victim of the legendary Hatchet Man? Was this loving and devoted mother killed because of her shady past, or for her inheritance? Between finding the truth and falling in love, Steven stops at nothing, too solve his mother’s murder.

“The Other Couple’s Child”

Charlotte had it all. A loving and devoted husband. Supportive family and friends, and a house full of beautiful children. Everything was perfect for this Super Mom, until a medical procedure turns her life upside down, and spirals into a child abduction case. Time is running out. Will police arrive in time to save Charlotte and the other couple’s child?

“3381 Market Street”

Katherine Sims, a young widow working for a brokerage firm in a small southeastern town, is tired of the excuses concerning Charlie’s absence. She knows something terrible must have happened to her favorite nephew with the sad blue-eyes. After exposing the killer, Katherine’s life is turned upside down and she finds herself fighting for her life. Filled with maniacal suspects, a Satanic Cult, and danger around each corner, this story depicts one woman’s courage too avenge a child’s murder, while finding unexpected love.

“The Tarot Card Murders”

New Detective, and ex-navel man, twenty-six-year-old Nick Difozzio, returns to his small county determined too abolish crime. Not until death knocked on his door, did he know the face of evil. Will the decorated veteran destroy the Lycanthropes, or will he succumb to their murderess desires and become one of them? He took an oath too protect, honor, and uphold the law, but can he defy the lust, riches, and power offered, or are the ‘dark forces’ stronger than his will?

Excerpt from “3381 Market Street”

More evidence against Jessie surfaced during the next few weeks. Nothing was more mortifying to Katherine, though, than finding her name and photograph on the front page of the local newspaper one morning.
“Those heartless reporters!” she cried.
Just then, she noticed her neighbors gawking at her. Shocked and humiliated, she refused to allow her brother’s shame to become hers, and remembered Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be courageous and strong. Do not be afraid or suffer a shock before them. Because Jehovah, your God, is the one marching with you. He will neither desert you, nor leave you entirely.”
Standing up to the rude stares, whispers and sneers, which continued for months, Katherine turned and walked inside. Meanwhile, when the license number Greg wrote down after his roadside attack proved to be bogus, he wasted no time in getting thirty-two-year-old State Investigator Donavan Slade on the case.
A retired Navy Seal, the brawny blue-eyed Investigator was of medium height, and had a shark-like reputation when it came to gathering evidence. Letting nothing get between him and the truth, Slade, gave the following press conference: “This case file suggests there will be a lot of finger pointing. I don’t necessarily blame the county caseworkers for the neglect and abuse the Ellis children suffered; I blame society as a whole. ‘It takes a whole village to raise a child. What happened to Charlie Ellis is unforgivable. Mr. Ellis’s ability to conceal his crime makes us all appear foolish.”

RT 2014 Book Lovers Convention- My Thoughts

As I sit back and catch the numerous comments rolling in about the separation between Traditional and Indie published authors a few things come to mind.

1) If you penned a book, from start to finish and even one person enjoyed your story– YOU ARE AN AUTHOR.
2) Readers don’t give a shit where the book came from aside from the author name. Sorry, for the most they don’t. Fact. Just ask for yourselves.
3) An easy and simple fix for conventions: Alphabetical. Boom done. Authors A-L here, Authors M-Z here.
4) I bragged when I decided to truly pursue writing how “banded” authors all seemed. A tragedy? Bam, they were there, hand out ready to help. Newbie? Bam, there they were extending a hand in friendship and mentoring.

Lets not lose that sense of banding together nor allow TPTB to nudge anyone in that direction.

Just some thoughts from a little known who wasn’t there, but so wanted to be.

WOO HOO- Table for Three Hold the Blood IS RANKED AGAIN!!
Like Erotic Horror? I’ll warn, this isn’t for everyone.
Closest description is remember the fun of the old 80’s slasher flicks? How we had HOT Kevin Bacon in Gory Friday the 13th… well sort of an ode to those days.

But a bit, er…spicier. *wink*

Blurb:
Shana, Erron, and Marklon hadn’t realized life had more than a committed threesome in store for them. Like catching the serial killer monster who is leaving bloody body parts in restaurants throughout their small town—on platters no less.

The first murder and subsequent meal/gag occurred not long ago, at the upscale eatery, Carnal Cravings. Not long after, nearly every restaurant in town had served up some form of unexpected tartar. Heads on platters stuffed like prize pigs at luaus and people popsicles. Even deli-wrapped penises, taking Oscar Meyer Weiner to a whole new plane of pun, have rocked the sleepy little town of Crow Manor Maine to a state of panic.

It was then the nightmares began for Shana and her two men. It wasn’t long before she realized they weren’t nightmares but visions. They’d become attuned to the killer. As the threesome fight for their love and their lives, old skeletons tumble out of the closet that could literally carve them to shreds.

So if your game…Give Table for Three Hold the Blood a gruesome whirl.

08/15/13 – Please Welcome Author T.F. Walsh!
Book Release: CLOAKED IN FUR by T.F. Walsh

Cloaked In Fur Banner 450 x 169 Tour2

Hi Bobbi, thank you for having me on your blog today.

Writing is a labor of love for me, and I spend as much time as I can in front of the keyboard.  Whether I’m at home at my desk, or enjoying a hot tea at a local cafe, I’m always working on one writing project or another. But occasionally I pry myself away to enjoy other things. And another labor of love for me is baking. I enjoy cooking in general, but I especially baking. Making cakes, pastries and breads is something I use to unwind, but it also allows me to enjoy the company of others. Experimenting in the kitchen with friends and family is a great chance for me to be more social than I am when I write.  And not to mention the great rewards that come out of the oven.

Of course when I’m not writing, I love reading. I tend to read the same genres I love to write in; fantasy, supernatural, romance and steampunky type of stories. When I’m not reading the works of my critique partners, I love to curl of with a book and read something new and experience the other side of the author/reader relationship. And when I next extra spoiling, soaking in a hot bubble bath with my kindle and letting the story take me away.

When my brain is overloaded however, there is one thing that always relaxes me; B-grade movies.  Mockbusters and similar low budget movies are so much fun to watch. Any movie title with a ‘Mega’ creature or with Zombies in it has me hooked. And recently I watched SharkNado. It was bad in a good wayJ Not only are the storyline, acting and dialogue hilarious, they make me feel so much better about my own writing.  And sometimes that’s exactly what I need.

How do you unwind?

Please Welcome Author Linda Nightingale!

Linda came to chat about her latest release Sinners Opera AND share with us her interview with her characters.

sinners-510

Linda’s interview with Morgan:

What is your greatest temptation:

In women:   All of them!  I love women to a fault.  I am a vampire and women fire all my senses.  Now, I am trying to be a good boy and focus my attentions on my beloved Isabeau and not finding it the challenge one of my kind would have expected.

In food:   Blood straight up, no ice.

In clothes:   The wardrobe on my profession is the tuxedo.  At my country estate in Devon, I relax into tweeds and sweaters or riding gear.  I’m an avid horseman.

What is your greatest weakness (example: buying shoes)?  Women are my greatest weakness…and necessarily blood.

If you could have any kind of car, what would it be?  I have the car I would drive, and Aston Martin Vanquish—black on black convertible—but I miss the candy apple red Jaguar XKE that drowned in Charleston’s Cooper River.

Your dream home – mountains or ocean?  Both.  I quite like Asheville, NC for mountains but my ancestral estate, Royal Oak, in Devonshire, England overlooks the ocean that batters its towers.

Who is your favorite historical figure?  Me. No, seriously, my friend and king, Charles II, whom I followed into exile after the English Civil War when usurper robbed England

Your story?

Our story belongs to Isabeau and me:

Morgan Gabriel D’Arcy is a classical pianist, an English lord and a vampire.  He has everything except what he desires most—a woman he has loved from the day she was born—Isabeau.

For centuries, he has cherished a dream—a race of immortal crossbreeds possessing vampire strength and human morals.  Ambition is not his most important motivation.  Love is.  When Isabeau, his chosen bride, was a child, he appeared to her as an angel and watched over her.  As the Angel Gabriel predicted, Isabeau is now a brilliant geneticist.  She has come of age, and Morgan is determined to marry her.  However, many forces oppose them, not the least of which is Vampyre law.  The Vampyre are viral mutations produced by a blood-borne pathogen that alters human DNA.  Mating between human and Vampyre is prohibited.  The offspring—

DarkeChildren—inherit a dangerous gene that drives them insane at puberty.

An enemy from Morgan’s distant past is stalking him. Paul d’Alembert seeks eye-for-an-eye justice, intending to kill Isabeau as once Morgan killed his beloved.  In fact, his enemies are rapidly closing in on them.  Will Morgan have time and an opportunity to make his dream come true—to sire a child on Isabeau?  Will he outsmart his enemies, protect her and escape death himself?  For the first time in eternity, the clock is ticking.

Excerpt:

Dead Ringer

January 10th of a New Year

Dusk to dawn for fourteen nights, an unseen force protected Isabeau.

I rang in the New Year on her rooftop.  My darling celebrated with champagne and a best seller.  She retired early, and I couldn’t resist the ecstasy of her blood.

Trembling with desire, I drifted down on the bed, took her in my arms and held her close.  My heart segued to the slow beat of her heart.  Deepening her slumbers, I traced the jugular with my tongue.  Need quivered through me.  My lips caressed her neck from her perfect jaw to her collarbone.  Erect and throbbing, I eased my fangs into the vein.  She moaned and flung an arm around my neck.  In the Bloodbond, I pretended she knew what I was and welcomed my kiss.  Isabeau was the greatest temptation, her blood the ultimate bliss.  I fought a fierce battle not to drain her beautiful essence.  If I killed Isabeau, my life would be worthless.  Two mouthfuls, and I broke away with a hungry groan.

Leaving her sleeping alone was the hardest thing I’d done in centuries.

Back on the rooftop, I relived the bliss of our union.  Lust haunted every waking hour.  During my watch, now and then, she stopped, looked around, and my heart beat faster.  Did she sense me near?  I was invisible, cloaking a deeper Glamour.  It was impossible for her to know I was there.  Yet I liked to think she sensed my presence because we were bound spirit-to-spirit.

I was so starved for her I actually enjoyed the vigil though the rain continued, and I spent nights soaked to the skin, my hair dripping down my neck.  The second stormy evening, I considered a haircut but remembered how Isabeau loved running her fingers through my hair.

If I’d been obliged to stand guard with the Royal Payne in Isabeau’s bed, I’d have failed miserably, and he would have died even more miserably.  Kind, considerate creature that I am, the night I learned of the engagement temporaire, I rang a friend in Norway.  The next day the prominent Charleston attorney’s firm dispatched him to Oslo to assist a wealthy banker in the purchase of property in Hilton Head.  The elaborate deception came with a big perk.  When the client decided not to invest, Payne would fail the assignment.

Thus, Isabeau and I spent the next fortnight together yet alone.

Dawn trembled on the horizon as I eased the Jag into the driveway.  Time for the changing of the guard.  Windows glinted like eyes in the sporadic moonlight, but no light shown inside.  Avery must still be asleep.

I sat motionless, gazing at the new real estate that would be my home.  I’d only spent one night in the house.  Would this place—the city, the house—ever feel like home?  Homesickness twisted my heart.  I wished I was in my chambers at Royal Oak, watching night descend over the ocean.  Then I remembered Isabeau trembling in my arms and the rapture of her blood, and warmth flooded me.  Leaving the top down, I hopped from the car and strolled to the door.

In darkness, I sauntered down the hall, allowing my shields to dissipate, my essence to expand through my new home.  I’d grab a bottle of Gold Label Black Swan, take it to the UV-proof bedroom and enjoy a drink before sleep deadened me cell-by-cell.  In the kitchen, I reached behind me to flick the light switch.  Nothing happened.  Instead, the darkness thickened.

On Isabeau’s roof, I’d witnessed a spectacular display of Mother Nature’s wrath.  A trident of lightning splintered the midnight sky.  Thunder stampeded in lightning’s wake, shaking the ground and triggering car alarms.  The power station that served Orange Street must serve the Battery as well.  I strode to the fridge for the Gold Label.  On the stainless steel door, pinned with a Snape magnet, was a note.

Avery had attended a midnight premiere of the new Harry Potter film.  “By the time you read this, I’ll be at Orange Street.  Hunt or at least feed.  I worry about you, sir.”

I shook my head and laughed.  That dignified Avery was a devoted Potter fan struck me as amusing since he lived with a vampire.

The old man was dead right.  I needed to feed.  The hunger beat at my ribs.  I seized the Black Swan, uncorked the bottle with my fangs and took a long, shuddering drink.  I’d take the wine to my bedroom and read until sleep claimed me.  But I was in no hurry.  I wandered from the kitchen to the foyer.  The hair at my nape rose.  A chill awareness possessed me.  An ecstatic cry upstairs snapped me to attention.  Only a vampire would have heard the faint stain of laughter.  I mounted the elegant staircase and whisked to the first floor landing.  No sound, but the Darkling, as my Irish nurse had called the unnerving sensation, stood every hair on end.

I plunged into the darkness, my footsteps silent.  The night was still, ominous.  Down the hall, I followed my sixth sense, halting at the door to one of several unused bedrooms.  I flung the door open.  Like ghosts, furniture shrouded in sheets crouched by bare walls.  The scent of blood and sex overpowered me.  One enticed.  The other sickened.

Moonlight washed through the tall windows.  Blood and pearly vampire sperm gleamed on the polished oak floor.  Another of my kind had violated my house.  Outrage streaked through my veins.  The rogue would pay.  My left hand fisted, my right gripping the bottle.  Suckling sounds and the orgasmic sigh of a mortal rising to the vampire’s kiss drifted from downstairs.  Expending energy I could ill afford, I teleported to the foyer.  Light leached through the etched glass door, shimmering on a rivulet of blood.

The rogue vampire had disappeared.  I inched toward the woman’s corpse.

A tangle of blonde streaked hair framed a beautiful face—a beloved face.  The ghastly scene seared my eyes.  My heart turned to ice, my blood freezing in my veins.  Horror clawed up my throat on a wretched cry.  Pain lanced my temples, ripped through my guts.  The bottle I’d forgotten crashed to the floor and shattered, blood seeping beneath my feet.

She’d died in orgasm, arms flung above her head.  Vampire sperm smeared her spread legs and clung to the curls on her mons.  A pitiful whine unwound from my throat.  I clamped a hand to my mouth and gagged.  Hating the sight, but unable to look away, I staggered to Isabeau, praying that a breath of life remained.  My knees buckled, and I fell.  The floor was cold.  Her lips would be cold.

“Isabeau,” I whimpered.  “Merciless God, what have I done?”

By all that was holy, I would not allow my dreams to perish.  My hand shook as I lifted her wrist.

No pulse.  And no heart.  A black hole gaped beneath her left breast.  Bile scalded my throat, and a hard shudder rocketed through my numb body.  Dead violet eyes accused me of murder.  If only a spark of life remained, I could steal her from death, but she was beyond my reach.  Isabeau was dead.
