Enterprise Rental Car: Epic FAIL x2!

Enterprise Rental Car FAIL/WARNING!

Some of you may remember the fiasco I had with Enterprise Rental Cars last year. We’d booked the car over a month in advance, I called to verify 24 hrs prior, my reservation was in the system arrived and was denied the rental.

Mind you, we were already in the system as we’ve rented from Enterprise in the past. But I hadn’t been told that if I didn’t use my credit card (which I could have done and earned 5% cash back) that I’d have to bring, A) Gas Bill, B) Cable Bill, C) Cell Phone Bill, D) Electric Bill.

  1. A) We are an ALL electric house. No gas bill. B)We are streamers with ROKU so no cable bill. C) We are Straight Talk and Verizon Pre-Pay Customers D) While I DID show an electric bill (via my cell phone so limited bill visibility, we were belittled that we were “seriously delinquent.”

No. We were not.

We have a City Loan for replacing our roof to a more energy efficient metal roof. You can’t qualify for a city loan with electric delinquency. We are also POOL owners. Between the roof loan (an additional amount on our bill) AND a pool pump/water running, our bills run high. They also include, garbage service, storm water run-off, water and firefighter fee’s.

ONE bill in the summer (during which time the rental was for) was $650.00. Not delinquent, just HIGH bills due to the above reasons.

COMMON SENSE: I offered to bring the bill back so the agent could SEE the actual bill and not just the amount. I also offered to BRING our mortgage statement reflecting we are 20 year home owners.

AGAIN- The agent said no, indicted we were delinquent in our bills and Enterprise would not rent to people like us.

Home owners, perfect driving records, past Enterprise clients and denied and belittled. I made a few quick calls and BUDGET RENTAL had me on the road within 45 minutes!!!! (We’ve also rented from Budget before with NO ISSUES EVER, but when I’d called price-checking, Enterprise had come in lower)

THANK YOU BUDGET!!! Also, noteworthy, the trip was to meet my biological grandmother and also introduce her to my children. Thanks to Budget the trip wasn’t cancelled and sadly, my grandmother was right. Time was ticking, as she passed away a little over a week ago.

  ***   THIS YEAR!  ***

I notified Enterprise of what had happened. After about a week of repeating what happened to different agents, I spoke with the local GM who apologized profusely, SWORE this wasn’t the Enterprise way, and offered me a FREE 3-Day rental, for my next need. (This part took place after last years fiasco)

The last week in April (2017) I emailed the GM and upon no reply called the sore. The GM from last year, no longer worked for Enterprise. The NEW GM requested I forward the emails, (which I did) and then said Enterprise WOULD honor the 3-day rental. As I need a weekly rental, he said he’d get me a quite by the end of the week. This was on a Monday. By Monday the following week, I contacted him again, about  the rental quote.

“Sorry.  I had a death in the family last week.  I didn’t forget about you and I will make a reservation ASAP.”

I replied that day,

Oh no! I’m terribly sorry to hear that. Condolences to you and yours. Its not that I’m in any rush… the trip isn’t until 06/10/17, but I just like to try and get everything arranged so I know what’s done and needs to be done before leaving. Its only to Daytona, but I’ll still pack and treat this as if heading cross country. LOL

Again, sorry about your loss. Always hard saying goodbye to loved ones.”

This exchange happened May 8th. I NEVER heard another word from this GM.

On May 31ar I opened up a direct message dialogue with Enterprise Twitter online. I was assured they cared and someone would get in touch with me.

*Thumbs Up for the people running the Enterprise Twitter Acct!*

It is now June 4th. Yes, only 4 days, but if anyone had truly reviewed the timeline, I would suspect someone would have been in-touch by now.

Budget only comes in a tiny bit higher, but thus far, has been a hassle free experience.

IF and WHEN Enterprise Rental Car contacts me, I’ll UPDATE.

Until then… Be Wary!

Bobbi

Am I a broken reader?

Image result for going crazy

Am I a broken reader?

I write this because well… I guess I read, and LOVE, what I see so many hate. Loathe, reject or deny.

Let me start by saying, this post is NOT about anyone. Its not what anyone said or did, but I what I keep stumbling across as the “norm.”

Growl. I can’t tell you how many posts I’ve run across where some say, “Oh for the love of baby kittens, NO MORE GROWLING.”

Me?

I fucking love it. Done right, if he growls at her, it shivers me timbers. Am I broken?

Millionaires and surprise babies. There are some who say, give me MORE! Some places actually push that troupe.

Me?

What the ever loving fuck? I’m so damn broke and menopausal my head can’t even begin to wrap around that. Not even for a minute. Am I broken?

First vs Third? Again, I’ve run across countless posts, from readers, agents and even editors. Heck, even crit classes. AVOID first.

Me?

LOVE it. I often write 1st POV and more often, read it. When done well, you become that character for their story. Don’t get me wrong. If there are many emotions from many characters I think 3rd is best to better get this across to the reader. Am I broken?

There are so many DON’TS that are my DO list that I’m lest wondering…

Am I a broken reader/author?

Weigh in. Gimme your thoughts. I’m curious.

You are NOT alone…

You are NOT alone!

For anyone dealing with a loved one/friend battling mental illness, you are NOT alone. It sucks for those battling and it sucks for those dealing with.

The laws are wonky and help no one.

They protect no one.

Yes, life with, can be a struggle. You are not alone.

My SIL is paranoid schizophrenic and a close family like friend is bi-polar. Both can be the sweetest people on the plant and BOTH can go violent in the blink of an eye.

My SIL is currently institutionalized and her husband fears they are being evicted due to her outbursts. She is in misery to what her mind has created and her meds are not working as they used to. Whether this is due to constant changes in them OR menopause or age, we don’t know. We DO know this… everyone is at stalemate.

You see the state doesn’t want to keep her unless she’s a direct threat. Family can’t deal because often she is. Her husband has issues too, not as extreme, but he can only handle him.

STALEMATE.

The close friend I mentioned, is our foster nephews mom. She’s never had it easy either. In fact, most of the time she’s okay.    She doesn’t take her pills because she can’t afford the medical care, and as she’s essentially homeless, has no address to give for attempting state assistence.

STALEMATE.

My son, though not diagnosed is somewhere on the autism/aspbergers spectrum. He was ESE all through school, pulled out of high-school at their recommendation as they saw his need for more help. He’s now 24 and continues to struggle to make a life, without a label. Sadly, his OCD and other issues make life very hard. He may hear a whisper and jumps to assumptions people are talking about him. Yes, we understand he may paranoid tendencies too. He lives at home and we emotionally and financially support him too. But we worry about his future. What happens when we are no longer here?

STALEMATE.

So to any and all of you out there, going through the same struggles…

You are not alone.

There are hotlines in every home state, who have people there to just listen. Don’t hesitate to call. Don’t think you need to be worried about what anyone may “think.”

Sadly we’re going through something very common now, so you are NOT ALONE.

#BobbiRomansReads CH 3 & a Recipe

UPDATE: The crew hasn’t left yet–so the reading will start at 12:45 EST

Bobbi Romans Reads, will be delayed a bit this morning. Part of my massive clan are heading out for a mini-vacay and the house has become chaotic. Wee ones running amok “is it time?” and mom packing, loading and knowing she’s forgotten something.

To play it safe, lets say NOON! Chapter Three of An American Holiday will commence NOON-ish today. (EST-04/07/17)

HERE: Bobbi Romans Reads Ch 3

As in previous notes, to watch/listen to chapters ONE and TWO, simply go here:  Then Click MORE, then select VIIDEOS. I’ve titled them #BobbiRomansReads Ch1 and so forth.

SWAMP MAGIC SERIES lovers, the books are NOW available again. Check on Simon & Schuster S & S Link or as always, Amazon.com. Swamp Magic (Bk1) Amazon

RECIPE ALERT!

So, any good cook will admit to erring in “winging” some new creation. I had mine. It was HORRID. I tried to do a surprise “fancy” breakfast… yeah, no. For dinner, I revereted to a tried and true favorite.

Broccoli, Rice and Cheese Casserole, but DINNER style.

What’s dinner style? I add meat. I’ve also converted from my mothers, Cheese Whiz ingredient. Normal size family? Stick with the Cheese Whiz, massive crew like mine who has to make TWO pots, use Velvetta.

Basic breakdown, I brown hamburger meat with diced onions and drain. Return to pot add a family size bag of frozen chopped broccoli and a stick of butter. Over medium heat while stirring often, cook until broccoli is tender. Add one family sized can of cream of mushroom or chicken stir well, add instant rice (I actually use par-broiled but have to add more water and watch really carefully) water and cubed Velvetta and a dash or two of salt or garlic salt.

No, I didn’t give quantities because with this one, just wing it depending on your family size. I can give a typical amount, such as 3-5 pounds of ground beef, depending on how meaty you like it, rice 2 cups, water accordingly, extra butter if making a super large batch, etc.

UPDATE: Remember this?

Never heard of this thing much less seen or eaten, and BAM! My aunt shows me a menu from a new restaurant she was raving about and LO and BEHOLD, there it is. Tamarind and date dipping sauce to the Samosas Dish!

TGIF!!

Foodie, Foodie, Urmmm Whatie?

So here’s another FOODIE post. I told you, I cook lots, and cook often.

Last night we had Jalapeno Popper Won Tons with a light salad and what I called a fruit sampler for dessert.

Ever had this before?

Image may contain: food

The kids all gathered around to figure out how to eat this odditie food!

If I had to put a description to what it tastes like I’d have to describe this fruit as similar to an organic fruit roll-up. It comes appearing like the “ever had this” photo. You break open the crunchy peanut type shell, then eat the fruit that’s surrounding the large hard seeds inside. Image may contain: dessert and food There are only, on average, 2-4 seeds inside but there is no EASY way of getting them out, so, you chew around them. Rather like you would a cherry.

Tonight we had, Broccoli Cauliflower Salad with bread sticks and from scratch, 3-Layer Carrot Cake!

Image may contain: food

I LOVE this salad! Its so easy, and gives a rich kick like potato salad without all the carbs! I made 2 pans, (only 1 is pictured) since not everyone in the house likes raisins in their food.

So, what’s on YOUR table tonight?

#Bobbi Romans Reads (& a Tasty Tidbit)

Well, lots been happening since I last posted. Had our writing retreat from March 2 through the 5th at beautiful Lake Mystic in Bristol Florida alongside authors Bren Christopher, Jillian Chantal, Mari Carter, Carolyn Hector and Joan Wylder. Lots of words to paper. Yay!

Then returned and am continuing work on my latest WIP while also collaborating on a summer anthology, which promises to be SUPER steamy!

Adding to the fun, is the “SOON COMING” Bobbi Romans Reads!

What the heck is that?

Me attempting to stay BEHIND the camera as I read An American Holiday via FB Live. (So if you aren’t following me yet, now’s the time.) If things go good, you’ll hear a great story. If things go bad, well, you’ll have at least one afternoon of laughter.

Bobbi Romans Page

Bobbi Romans Profile Page

In fact I’m trying to get a good feel (with everyone’s input) which Bobbi Romans FB page to do this from? It will be a chapter or so at a time, maybe even 3-4 depending how well that 1st attempt goes.

Shows? Right now my Hulu addiction is Black Sails. Yowza… Love it.

As soon as Frankie and Grace come back, I’ll be watching that one too. Need to get caught up one day when there is time with my Walking Dead and Vikings which I’m seasons behind on as of now.

Today’s project? Give hubby the best birthday dinner ever. His actual birthday was yesterday but to aid with everyone being here, we are holding the event today. Menu? Surf & Turf! Steaks, Crab Legs, Baked Potatoes, Corn on the Cob, Jalapeno Cheesy Bread and Pineapple Upside down Cake for dessert. I’m spring cleaning the Gazebo and stringing lights to have dinner outside while the Florida weather is nice. Not too cold, not too hot, just right!

Before I go, I’ll share a “Tasty Tidbit.” Give a quick, cheap twist to an old favorite, Chicken and Rice. Simply add, one can of Crushed Pineapple and a few dashes of Moroccan Seasoning to create a unique twist to this old comfort food.

Hope everyone has an awesome weekend!

🙂

Food: The dreaded grocery bill!

I’ll be switching gears from food back to romance this week. That said, there are other recipe books in the works.

I’m sort of known as the “holiday” cook as well. ANY holiday and recipes ranging from creating dishes with faces for the Wee Ones running amok, or making a MOUNTAIN of a casserole for the massive gatherings we have.

The “Bobbi Romans Recipes for Giant Sized Families on Fairy Sized Budgets” needs no blurb, but while that is my normal (every day) cooking, I can and do pull out the stops for gatherings.

Bobbi Roman's Recipes for Giant Sized Families on Fairy Sized Budgets! by [Romans, Bobbi]

Ebook

Print

But for any of you foodies out there, I’m going to share my biggest challenge.

The food BUDGET!

Ack!

Its darn near impossible to cook recipes AND stay within whatever your shopping limit is. Me? Ours ranges from $250.00-$300.00 a week. Can I cook for less? Of course! But it won’t be recipes I want to try. It will be staple dinners like SOS, Breakfast for dinner, beans and rice and so forth.

HOT DOGS! OMG– remember when that used to be the “cheap” meal? Have you see the price on some of those brands out there? I’d love to try some but with a crew that requires a min of 4 packs for a dinner, simply can’t.

Yes I’m an author, but a fledgling one so no… money isn’t rolling in. Hubby is the sole bread winner in the house with the grown kids here, pitching in a little, as we’re doing our best to help them get back on their financial feet, the grocery tab is about the biggest bill. (House pymt and electric are the only bills to top it)

Lunch time can be tricky. I’ve got to make sure I’ve got both packable lunches for the hubs and Wee Man, but also, lunch items for those of us still here. (4)

Eggs! Yep, eggs can go far. Egg salad, boiled eggs and in a pinch when stretching a dinner, deviled eggs. The Ramen noodle supreme (in the book) and flour tortillas are staples here in the house as well. Come on, a flour tortilla can be ANYTHING!

A breakfast burrito, a cheese taco, heck Wee Man likes his hot dogs in them. Hubby and nephew put whatever, and I mean, WHATEVER dinner is, in one and roll it up at dinner time.

What’s your one favorite food MUST have staple that your family requires in the house?
